[Note from Anthony: Here's yet another post from Vicky Vette's MySpace blog from last year concerning her dust up with Kyle (aka "Devnet"), a groupie of Shelley Lubben's antiporn ministry. In this episode, Vicky responds to a comment that Kyle posted to an earlier thread that included a press release from Lubben's blog announcing the "conversion" of a porn starlet named Tamara Toryn. Notice how Vicky gives the maximum respect to Tamara's decision while raising questions about the nature of her experiences....something that neither Lubben or "Kyle" seem to have towards others.]
As some of you know, I have been the target of some religious folks who write nice notes to me about being in sin and going to hell and that I can be saved if I put my faith in the Lord. I blogged about one of them Kyle (his profile is located here). Kyle sent daily messages of scripture to my comments page (yes I do read stuff on my Myspace page people – even the wazzup’s!) Having said that, I did not block Kyle because he is interesting in a medieval kind of way – a fine demonstration of why this country still fakes outrage whenever there is a slipped booble on television. Anyway, Kyle posted this as a comment, I thought I would use it to blog:
“Tamra Toryn Out of Porn!
I am VERY excited to announce that another porn star has left porn! Tamra contacted me through Myspace and we immediately connected. She wanted to come out with her story to help educate young girls before they get into porn and suffer major consequences. She also wants those viewing porn to know the truth so they will stop buying into the lie and contributing to women being abused in the industry. She is very outspoken and tells it like it is in an interview with her and I. Talk about two outspoken ex porn stars! Click here to listen to an audio of us talking boldly about the truth behind the porn industry and more!
She boldly writes on her myspace blog:
“Unlike most girls that start their porn careers doing just masturbation, oral or girl/ girl, I went straight for hardcore because I was quote unquote “hardcore” . Attitude check anyone? My scene was shot Gonzo (reality/amateur style) boy/girl, anal, ATM (ass to mouth)- pay $1000. Expenses and flight all paid. Sounded like a dream come true. I arrive and a man with a sign awaits me in the baggage claim area with an Escalade limo to pick me up. We stop at Denny’s to eat and meet with the director. After we meet, he takes me outside to give me a once over look of approval, we finish eating, and drive to the studio. Nothing prepared me other than a boot camp workout, my xanax prescription for my anxiety disorder since I was nervous as heck, and a low carb diet for a month to dig up the courage to take my clothes off to do things I never thought I would share on film for the world to see. Tons of people walking around, food provided, etc etc. No STD tests were given or shown since the director assured me that since they were using condoms, I wouldn’t have to worry. (Yeah right) 2 hours later, naked, medicated, sore, and wet from jumping off a boat to end the scene like they pushed me off the boat like a useless stupid whore, I received $1000 for my “hard work”, praised of a “great job” I did and driven to my friend’s house (since I didn’t want to stay at the production’s beach house with weird people on drugs I didn’t know) and extended my stay to celebrate my new life as a “porn star”. This is where real life ended and the delusion of temporary existence began.”
You can read the rest of her amazing story at www.myspace.com/miss_Tammie_B Her profile is set to private but if you request to be her friend and mention Pink Cross she will approve you. Please be sure to leave her encouraging comments. She says many myspace friends already reached out to her and it REALLY touched her. Tamra entered the porn industry at age 26 in 2005 and was involved in making very hardcore movies. After being tired of the abuse and catching HPV, a sexually transmitted disease, she left the porn industry in February, 2008 and now works at a tanning salon in Hollywood. Her dream is to go to Cosmetology school so we are going to do our best to help her make that dream come true. Right now she has a need for new clothes so we want to help her with immediate needs first.”
I cannot speak in a vacuum about Tamra Toryn….. not will I. I do not know of her, why she got into the business, or why she has chosen another path. I have sent her a friend request to find out more out of interest. Here are my thoughts in general after having read Kyle’s post of her blog (and holding her up as some kind of ‘prize’).
1. If you do decide to get into adult – you might want to start on the ‘first floor’. Baring your body for the camera is NOT for everyone. If you start out shooting with say 10 guys – the next shoot you will be asked to shoot with 11. It is a lot smarter to work your way UP than work your way DOWN. Once something is on camera it never goes away so DON’T do something that you are nervous about. Start as slow as you are genuinely comfortable – if you like it – you can always shoot more.
2. If you think that shooting adult material to become a ‘pornstar’ is glamorous or going to make you rich – you MAY have chosen the wrong profession! The adult industry now has a huge glut of scenes being shot daily all around the world and being put up on the internet. Standing out in the crowd (unless you wear a blue cop outfit) is very difficult and if you think $1,000 is going to make a difference in your life after a week or two of partying (like most people) you would be gravely mistaken. Shoot because you want to. If the producer is telling you NOT to worry about SDT tests, then red flags and great big flashing light bulbs should be going off in your head! If you are silly enough to get on a boat with 10 strangers and a dodgy production company for $1,000 without evidence of testing – maybe you are to blame if things go wrong?!
3. If religion is your salvation – by all means pursue it with all vigor. I have never put down religion – just the people who walk around on this earth acting like they have God in their speed dial telling people that they are sinners if they do not repent. Just as an adult producer can take advantage of a girl on a set who does not know any better – a religious zealot can also take advantage of the same girl and form opinions for that girl through pressure and promises of salvation.
4. It is NOT a sin to take your clothes off on camera! Here are the 10 commandments
“And God spoke all these words, saying: ‘I am the LORD your God…
ONE: ‘You shall have no other gods before Me.‘
TWO: ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image–any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.‘
THREE: ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.‘
FOUR: ‘Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.‘
FIVE: ‘Honor your father and your mother.‘
SIX: ‘You shall not murder.‘
SEVEN: ‘You shall not commit adultery.‘
EIGHT: ‘You shall not steal.‘
NINE: ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.‘
TENYou shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.‘ N: ‘
There is no Eleventh Commandment: ‘though shall NOT take your clothes off with the videocamera on!“ The religious zealots that are still quite prevalent in this country, would have you go back to the dark ages – no more swimming suits, no more dancing in public, and no more nipples on television (oh, right, you can’t expose your boobles on television anyway right?)
5. Yes, there are tons of people in adult who are genuinely messed up – with drugs, booze, depression & despair. It sometimes leads to suicide. Can you imagine going into a business wanting to be treated as a princess, with all the supposed ‘bling’ that goes along with it, and ending up struggling to pay the rent? Having said that – THE SAME IS TRUE OF EVERY PROFESSION. There are lawyers doing a bottle of booze every day, truckers doing vicodin to make the next long distance trip, and doctors whose hands are shaking from the tranquilizers in their systems. If you are unhappy in life – you will be unhappy period. If you are messed up to begin with …. guess what?… you are going to be more messed up.
6. While I have sympathy for Tamra’s blog I point out: she was offered money, she was picked up at a shoot, she proceeded to shoot after being asked permission, she did the shoot. So they paid for the flight, paid her fee, picked her up in a limmo, and took her to Denny’s. What is wrong with that – the choice of Denny’s? I do not get the sense that having sex with more than one person in a hardcore situation was anything strange for her – just her perception that somehow she would become a star and treated like royalty. For anyone who reads that post and feels sorry for her – remember that she had choices – the most important one being ‘yes’ or ‘no’. If you say ‘yes’, live with your choices rather than placing all the blame on the industry. It takes two to tango.
7. Where Kyle says that she is going to school and needs clothing….. what the does that mean? Did she run out of her monthly allowance to clothe herself? Does she desperately needs the cloth of the church to help her? Cast off yee old sinning clothing child and repent! I guess in 29 years her closet disappeared.
8. Tamra says “‘[I was] driven to my friend’s house (since I didn’t want to stay at the production’s beach house with weird people on drugs I didn’t know”……… so lemme get this straight, it was ok to do a scene with multiple strangers for cash with people you don’t know and no paperwork…….but she draws the line at hanging out with ‘weird people’?!!!!!
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. “I know, it’s only rock & roll, but I like it!”

In an updated blog entry, Vicky follows up with a convo she had with Tamara Toryn that debunks Kyle’s claims:
I post this again, not to bash per se on Kyle but because Kyle’s views set forth in the blogs here represent a huge chunk of people in this country: religious medieval zealots who use the power of fear and sin to intimidate people to somehow stop what they are doing and run to confession.
I took the time since I was blogging on the subject to contact Tamra Toryn. She read the blog. With her permission here is her message to me:
“Just so you know, Kyle is not associated with the Pink Cross Foundation nor do we support is his message he’s trying to send out by using religion and an ex-porn star’s testimony to attack anyone to prove a point. People like that give us the wrong impression on what our message is, which is to give support to those that need help either leaving the business or that have already left. I have no sympathy for those that want to bash people because they disagree on someone’s choices they’ve made to live their life. It’s your life and who is he to even use me as an excuse to bash you! I have no respect for people that do that or plan to with my story for their own personal gain.”
I am not going to bag on Kyle for trying…. but I do criticize him for being a supposed messenger of God & the Pink Cross Foundation. Do I agree with everything that the Pink Cross does? NO. Have we really reached the stage that we need foundations to help everyone who is depressed…. where is the ‘truckers foundation’ for suicidal truckers? (Don’t tell me they already have one). I kind of think that pornstars are being given told the ONLY way out is to follow the Lord to salvation – rather than simply stopping making movies and getting a ‘regular job’. Are they not being used? How are they now somehow better off if they cannot even afford to pay for clothing?
Having said that, an organization that provides a place for people to go in need cannot be all bad. If it helps – it helps.
I just do not agree with blanket messages to any person in the business. I have no doubt Kyle and others are trying to befriend every girl in the business. He is just unlucky that he ran into me – a happily married girl in porn who enjoys getting off on camera that does not do drugs or booze. The message of hate and sin is wrong. Not everyone who watches adult is a sinner. Kyle’s message that I am going to hell to answer to my maker is from the Dark Ages. Sexuality has to – in some degree – come out into the open otherwise you get things like priests molesting young boys. Is everything in porn acceptable or healthy? Nope. I have LOTS of issues with the adult industry such as the age girls can shoot and the targeting of men over 50 to ‘teenage’ looking movies (and people wonder why there are child molestors). That being said the industry and movies do some great things…..
- helps couples with intimacy
- educates people who don’t know what they are doing
- provides enjoyment if you like to watch it
- gets some people off if they are unhappy in life or with their partner
- brings sex out into the open instead of being buried in a closet.
There is NOTHING wrong with adults on camera having adult fun and people enjoying it. Like I said in my last blog – there is no eleventh commandment banning the use of camcorders. The adult industry is not always to blame for someone being unhappy – it could just be that the person was depressed to begin with or should not have been involved in the business at all. Thanks and good luck to Tamra in her search for herself. I hope that she listens to herself rather than others.
